So much fun bathing a squeeling baby. He actually likes it a lot .. but he keeps screaming when he feels cold.
It is nice to be back home and be able to walk around the garden with Julius … and lo and behold … no rain today … actually, humidity dropped to 59% which is a record low and we can feel it and we are enjoying it a lot … actually that would be a perfect night for BBQ, but I think there are laws against putting your baby on the BBQ .. ok .. bad joke
anyways … For the food critics, breakfast was pancakes with berry compote, lunch was spaghetti bolognese and for dinner I am planning to finally do my malaysian chicken curry which had to live in the freezer from the day that Ritsu went into labor.

Will tell later how dinner was … if we survive it
update
We survived the curry, and it was actually pretty nice. The nice thing about that pre-made curry mix is that it comes with real, full spices … creates a very nice flavor and looks very pretty.
So Cute !!!

Today we went for some shopping to try out the Baby Björn.

Well, not for the baby, but once we got home, and after I made New England Clam Chowder for lunch, we felt adventurous enough to leave for Malthouse for pizza and beer. We were about to give up on the idea since Julius kept crying and we still thought about how to breast feed him in a public place (easy for me to say) … but we eventually got him distracted enough and got our pizzas and had a great time. Since Ritsu’s mom had never tried the beers there, she got the 4 shot glass tasting offer … which was already way more than she was ready to drink.

I was singing “careless whisper” to him, since it was running in the background. And it appears he likes George Michael
So, this morning Julius had his last shot and after a bath (which was delayed by some other emergency) we did a final exam and Dr. Kamrul released us. And once again, Julius really loves driving around. Fell asleep right away.

Now, back home we got him to fall asleep as well. He and his big anti-mosqito protection device plus Ritsu plus her computer setup are taking over the whole bed … I guess it is time to clean up the bed in my office
For the last 2 weeks it has been raining constantly and blue sky has been absent. Last night was really bad, I encountered a really nasty puddle at a low point on Holland Street, that was not a puddle, that was a lake! And while browsing through it, a Bus comes towards me, splashing tons of water on my windshield … I am glad there was no car right behind me, as I had to stop to wait for the view to clear up. And my battery warning light came up (Battery got soked?)
A bit further up the street the curbstones had turned to little rivers …
The funniest thing I keep seeing are those people who keep hanging out laundry to dry …. not going to happen!

Good News today: While we initially thought we have to stay at the hospital until Monday, we were told today that we can leave Sunday already. So, one more antibiotic drip in the morning, one hefty swipe on the credit card, and we are out of there.
Tonight’s drip was a bit of a hassle, it seems that Saturday night is like the punishment shift. No one wants it and everyon is grumpy (besides the place feeling a bit understaffed). The lady doing the drip seemed to have very different ideas from what we have come to experience (regarding the numbers on that drip machine regulating the drip speed) and she first did not get the machine to work and then somehow it was clogged so she had to call Dr. Kamrul .. and finally with some telefone advise we got it done and Julius behaved pretty well during the time.

Too bad that no one had time to bath him today, that usually makes him fall asleep better, he gave us a hard time about it, and the nurses that night were full of less than helpful advise … like a breastfed baby just eats and sleeps … (tell that to a crying Julius please) … or that he should take the bath in the morning (Because that one nurse was eager to go home it seems)
Ah well … needless to say that 85% of all staff we have encountered in those 3 weeks have been incredibly helpful and nice … very few exceptions … and tonight we had 2 of those …

Always nice to see how well the 2 cats get along and how Nietzsche (gray, male, bigger) wants to ‘protect’ Misha (browner, smaller, female) and tries to stay close to her. They continue looking for new spots to hang out, and now they declared the car as their latest napping place.

This is the first picture where I can see that his eyes may actually turn slightly asian in appearance … and also a slight half smile I detect there.
We had a fantasic dinner at Great Wok of China in Flagstaff. All the staff was excited to see Ritsu and wanted to see the baby, but we left Julius at the hospital. We had soups and then a nice Fish in Sechuan sauce .. nicely spiced.

So, maybe there was a press screening after all and nobody bothered to write a review?
Jon found this one very negative review (on a Boston gay community website). Here some highlights
“But this time we have no capable actors (Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Eric Stoltz make this new lot seem like Shakespearian auteurs), and unlike “Jaws”, no visionary director to provide a shred of noble decency to nature’s denizens. ”
(This paragraph actually does not make a lot of sense, once we look up the word “auteur” …. but somehow I understand what the review writer wanted to say.)
“And how often can one say in this new cinematic world of computer-generated reality that the CGI effects were the best part of the experience?”
“ [...] a flower that apparently grows on one ten-foot square bush in one location on the planet and blooms once every seven years: who comes up with this crap? ”
“The players in this farce are interchangeable – each one a worse actor than the last, their characters based so thoroughly on horror/suspense caricatures that if they turned a corner and were fighting aliens or tigers or the daunting prospect of manipulating a remote control they probably wouldn’t lose what audience attention they sacrificed in the elongated, badly written opening sequences.”
“Grade: D-” – Ouch
I wonder what the boxoffice performance will be this coming weekend. There is no real competition from other opening movies, so I would not be surprised if even with a meager BO result of let’s say 8 million USD this movie takes the #1 spot. There are still enough idiots out there who associate this one with J-Lo or Ice-Tea (Ice-Cube? oh man, me and rapper names)
Thanks to David Foucher, the writer of the review, which is interestingly dated Friday 8/27. As I write this it is still 8/25 in Boston.

Not much to see of Julius here, but I found that Ritsu looks very pretty in this picture.
Last year’s shooting of Anacondas: the hunt for the blood orchid was the big hype and a bazillion of local people were involved (e.g. our gardener who basically just disappeared, and our friend Jon who got a free haircut out of it)
I will write some more about it, maybe after having seen the movie. But so far I’d like to nitpick on today’s Fijitimes Article about the big premiere:
What is that supposed to mean … terrified about whose privacy? lack of privacy? security maybe? This sentence makes no sense at all. Bad Bad journalism! Oh … maybe PIRACY !!!! (thanks VN for the heads up)
Well, maybe I check out the movie sometime tomorrow and write a review … someone should
Are there still people wanting these? I think long gone are the times that people actually paid real money for those on ebay (found an auction once back in May … something like 150USD were paid!)
GmailSwap is still up and running, but what people are offering has become less than funny. There used to be some interesting creative things there (‘I write and record a song about thanking you’, ‘a postcard every birthday’) but nowadays people don’t even offer paypal donations .. they clearly say ‘nothing’ instead.
Anyways, I just got the option to invite 4 more people, so please let me know either by email or the below comment field where to email the invites to.
In reference to the newpaper coverage from last week, ATH decided to strike back in this article, claiming that the proposals from 3 years ago were outdated and they even make it seem as if they had anticipated the internet development to be a ‘bubble’ and they knew it would burst. Pretty lame excuse if you ask me. But then again, nobody asks me.
So, this clip is kinda fun. It actually has Ritsu mimicing Julius’ cries .. so, what you hear is mainly Ritsu:)
And here a pic of last night showing who is carrying everything

We took a little break last night and brought the whole family home for dinner. I made Spaghetti Puttanesca and we had 2 hours of home / family time. Julius was a bit confused / overwhelmed by the new environement but we drove back to the hospital in time for his evening drip.
