The little man was tricky today, I guess he is teething and so a bit more cranky and prone to cry attacks … I think I had 5 to deal with today. He cried for the smallest of reasons: When I had to forbid him to shovel food into his drinking cup, when I had to put him off my lap because I had to go get something …
I got him out of one of these tantrums by making faces and imitating his crying … he started laughing like crazy. So, please enjoy:

Weekend, sleeping in .. yeah right … but anyways .. there was no rush today for the bath, so we did that in the early afternoon and took our sweet time with it. I had planned to do some video … but I was not prepared for Julius suddenly singing a song for ducky … really, he is doing some song there! I have more video footage, but this clip has the whole song and is pretty amazing … as long as you are not expecting anything Broadway like. Very cute.
We also had some fun redoing his hairstyle

update 2/17/06 added music to the video, finally

It snowed overnight .. how nice .. I first noticed that when a shrieking noice woke me up around 5 AM. One of those trucks that tries to get the snow off the streets. It was actually not that much snow, but it was enough to cancel the bus to the kindergarten (they are up in the hills, and after calling a friend who lives up there, I confirmed that the situation was grim. She did not even take her car out to get her kid to school).
So, Julius and I had a lazy day at home before us. At some point (and finally, a month after xmas was over) he showed interest in his Santa hat, combined with the music I was playing he soon started to wiggle around and dance with his stuffed animals.
Not a spectacular video clip, but a very cute one.
Other highlights included another videochat with mama, a walk throug the snowy neighborhood and pizza for dinner. (There is another video clip of him dancing around with a piece of pizza in his hand. But this clip is rather dark and was more a test of some new editing features … so, ah well, since it is up, why not post the above link?)
He does not sleep too well these days, I think it is a combination of teething and subconsciously missing his mom. The last 2 nights were rather short and today he only graced me with a 45 minute nap. Ah, where are those days when he used to do 3 naps a day, 90 minutes each …

Little Julius is still very demanding when it comes to free rides on daddy’s arm. To a point that I have to try to make his bottle or cook his dinner one handed. If I put him down he will start crying right away and people in this house probably already think little of this full time dad. I need to get this out of him sometime soon, as he is getting heavier every day.
Tonight we had a different kind of monster pasta (Cappelacci filled with pumpkin and porcini mushroom) and he loved it.

A good thing to do in the late afternoon is taking him on a quick shopping trip to the closest supermarket (Di Per Di). He usually rides my shoulders and at the store he is content in the shopping cart for about 10 minutes, or when we reach the check out. The trick is to keep the cart in the middle of the aisle, otherwise he starts cleaning out the shelves.
It is amazing how much stuff he can identify: Milk, bottles, nuni (pasta), nana (banana) … and the check out girls finally smile (they usually look very grumpy)

Paon is this huge elephant that Julius got from Kai and Petra for xmas (and which was interesting to put in our luggage). The name ‘paon’ stems from the japanese sound that elephants allegedly make. Now he calls every elephant ‘paon’. I actually tried to get a good shot of him cuddling with that huge plush animal, but so far no luck. He stops as soon as he sees the camera. Also fun is when he tries to carry 3 or more plush animals around (Paon, Stitch and Duckie) and I may have that at least on a video screen capture, will check later.
But a highlight was today when he started feeding Paon. Correctly locating his mouth hidden under his trunk and popping his milk bottle in. After taking this picture I had to explain that we do not feed our plush animals with real food / milk and then cleaned up the elephant.

Ok, and here is this video capture (not a video clip!) of him transporting up to 3 stuffed animals. Click to enlarge:

The morning time can be quite interesting, like when today, Julius actually wakes up a little early. I have to stretch the time then a bit before he gets to antsy (He is trying to put his shoes on and such). Obviously he is looking forward to go to the kindergarten everyday.
So, this morning we took a bath together.

He loves climbing stairs and he is getting better every day now. He often manages a couple of steps down without the need to hold on to something (or me) but when he gets lazy, he uses his old crawl style. Tonight we visited the nearby church of Gran Madre, which is great for stair excersize.

We had something similar a long while ago, how you would look in South Park.
Now, why was that taking so long that they would come up with the same for The Simpsons?
So, this is probably what I would look like in front of Moe’s:

This video is way too long! (5 minutes+)
It has been sitting on my hard drive a while now, I just did not see anything else I could edit out. So this is just for the hard core people out there.
Findus has these great frozen pasta dishes and one of them comes with artichokes in it, which Ritsu loves, but they only come in XXXL, only 6 of those monster pasta pouches are enough to feed the 3 of us.
Julius had a blast disecting and eating a whole one pretty much by himself. Enjoy the mess that he is making.
Mommy left this morning on a business trip. First stop Rome. And thanks to iChat, two Macs and 2 firewire webcams, we could hold a video-conference easier than doing a phonecall (with the advantage that the videochat was free). Julius needed some time to realize that this is really mommy talking to him in real-time (and not some pre-recorded video) but once he got into it, he was waving and smiling like crazy.
This is a really weird and / but beautiful picture (ok, Julius could smile a bit … and open his eyes more).
Besides cropping it, I have not tempered with it at all. This semi-sepia effect is one of the new ‘modes’ that my camera has picked up after living 1 year in my pocket and close to 8000 exposures. I think what it does is that it opens the lens way longer than it should and then flashes … so you get a dark ghost pic, the natural, more orange light and then the clear flash shot all rolled in one. Kinda neat, I wish I could pre-programme that. Anyone know of a digi cam where I can do that? Looks like I am going to be in the market for a new one soon.
Anyways, as to Julius: He is fine, he had a slight fever at kindergarten yesterday, a running nose and a cough, but this was much better today, but we keep having an eye on how things are going.

Today Julius found his old mobilé in our stuff. He had that since he was 11 days old.
Not sure if he actually remembers it, or simply his fascination with duckies kicked in.
Anyways, he started dancing once he heard the music.
