Monkey Bars & Cow (Video)
Today was supposed to be some kind of ‘informal’ play date at school (since Wednesday means early dismissal, but we can use the playgrounds there) … Unfortunately only his class pal Nanami stayed for like 10 minutes until her mom … Continue reading

The streets of Addis
Here some snapshots from this morning’s cab ride back to the hotel. Pollution is a grave problem here. What looks like fog, is actually all diesel fumes. Whenever I blow my nose … I spare you the details. But on … Continue reading
When there is no YouTube …
… then the little man finds other things to do on the hotel computer: The internet connection here is too slow to really ‘enjoy’ youtube videos. Constant buffering. WHEN the connection is working, which is a shaky thing in itself. … Continue reading

Never had to plan tomorrow’s schedule around a holiday that has yet to be announced …
Eid al-Fitr date confused by new moon sighting times around the world Tomorrow is Eid al-Fitr … or is it? From what I read so far there is a discussion (and maybe only this year?) if the holiday falls on … Continue reading

African Beer Garden Experience
Today, yet another rainy day, we had the great idea to try the Garden Bräuer Pub @ The Beer Garden Inn. And we were very happy indeed. The place is not too far (30ETB by taxi) and the setting is … Continue reading

They called it WHAT?
Sometimes I just see the weirdest things here … I wonder why they called the hotel that … and if they know what that means for some other people… They are getting some nice reviews on Tripadvisor though. Ok, asking … Continue reading
Some random street pictures
Something I wanted to post last week, but between power outs and internet not working, things take time. Just a bit of what it looks around the main busy street here. Obviously you can buy a lot of cheap clothing … Continue reading

No electricity … no problem
For most of the evening, the whole neighborhood was (is) without power … Which makes for a very romantic dinner experience. Everyone gets out their lighters .. or their flashlight apps, if they ever bothered to see what their phone … Continue reading

Soccer
There is not really much to do after school (other than falling asleep in the taxi) or playing with his new plethora of Lego. Of course he also needs to do his homework and I made it very clear that … Continue reading

Addis street impressions (Video)
Here just a little clip I shot this morning: For now this is our new neighborhood. And today is some holiday (end of Christian fasting), so I walked around and came across this group of singing girls .. towards the … Continue reading
