Tokyo Sky Tree boat cruise (with TV crew)

Behold the Tokyo Sky Tree, which “is currently the tallest tower in the world. It is taller than Canton Tower (600 m (1,969 ft)); the tallest structure on an island, taller than Taipei 101; and the second tallest structure in the world, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.”

I was not even aware they were building that thing last year when we were here. It is incredible to think that this is as tall as both World Trade Center towers put on top of each other.

It is not open for visitors yet, but clever cruise operators already offer boat tours to a great vantage point and do a countdown to illumination (5:30 PM).

Special on our trip was that we had a TV / Press crew on board. Utako recognized the anchorman and told us he was pretty famous. And sure enough, at some point they jumped on the gaijin. They took tons of pictures of Utako taking photos of Ritsu and me in front of the tower and the camera crew even filmed that. I wonder if we end up in the papers and when / what TV channel this segment will air. Will try to record.

While very cold, the trip was fun. It was not that much of a sight seeing cruise, but really more focused on getting people to see that new tower. Included was a free ‘beer’ in a fancy new can, which shows the Sky Tree in purple (when the can is cold) or blue (when the beer got warm). There was also some snack, but knowing our dinner plans, we kept it and brought it home.
